First Ever Advanced-EMT Program

Kearney, MO – 07/31/2024 – The Kearney Fire and Rescue Protection District, in collaboration with The University of Missouri Extension EMS Education Institute, is proud to announce the establishment of the first Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) program provided by the EMS Education Institute in the state of Missouri. This groundbreaking partnership represents a significant milestone in the advancement of emergency medical services education within the region.

We are thrilled to report the successful completion of the program’s inaugural cohort, which included six dedicated and highly skilled students. These individuals have undergone rigorous training and education, preparing them to deliver advanced levels of care in emergency medical situations.

“The establishment of this AEMT program is a testament to our commitment to enhancing the quality of emergency medical services in our community and beyond,” said Matt Listhartke, lead instructor for the AEMT program, of Kearney Fire and Rescue Protection District. “We are proud to collaborate with The EMS Education Institute, an institution renowned for its excellence in EMS training.”

The partnership aims to address the growing need for highly trained emergency medical professionals capable of providing advanced life-saving techniques. By offering this program, Kearney Fire and Rescue Protection District and the MU EMS Education Institute are ensuring that Missouri communities have access to top-tier emergency medical care.

“We are excited about the opportunities this program will provide for both our students and the communities they will serve,” said Jessica Kampeter, EMS Education Coordinator of the EMS Education Institute. “The success of our first cohort is just the beginning. We look forward to continuing this collaboration and expanding educational opportunities with Kearney Fire and Rescue Protection District.”

The AEMT program is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform advanced emergency medical care, bridging the gap between EMTs and paramedics. The comprehensive curriculum includes both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experience, ensuring that graduates are fully prepared to meet the challenges of the field.

Applications for future cohorts are now open, and prospective students are encouraged to apply. For more information about the AEMT program, please visit KearneyFire.org or contact Matt Listhartke at Kearney Fire and Rescue at 816-628-4122.
