Volunteer Opportunities and Firefighter Jobs in Kearney at KFRPD.

The Kearney Fire & Rescue Protection District is a combination department that employs full-time staff as well as volunteer members.

Personnel are divided into three shifts (A, B, and C Shift). Each shift works 24 hours and then is off 48 hours. The shifts start at 7:00 a.m. Volunteers and part-time personnel may supplement the staffing on these shifts.


 

Eligibility Details for Firefighter Jobs

In order to be eligible for any of our KFRPD firefighter jobs, you must meet these minimum qualifications:

Volunteer

  • Minimum 18 Years Old
  • Live in the Fire District
  • Pass Background Check

Volunteer personnel receive Basic Firefighter and First Responder training upon joining the department. The new member will then be enrolled in the first available Firefighter I & II courses. After they have completed their training, they are allowed to respond on calls.

When the volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel complete a mentorship program equivalent to the full-time staff, they are permitted to work up to 48 hours/month for pay. If the need arises, they may also fill in for full-time employees.

Full-Time

  • Minimum 18 Years Old
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid Operator License
  • Current EMT or EMT-P License
  • Good Physical Condition
  • Prefer FF I & II
  • CPAT certification or completion of department physical agility assessment.
