Statement of Response Policy

January 2011

The Kearney Fire and Rescue Protection District provides fire protection, rescue and ambulance services to the residents of the fire protection district that encompasses approximately 85 square miles including the City of Kearney. We are providing an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance service. The station is manned by seven personnel on a twenty four hour basis, with dual trained Firefighter-EMT’s and Firefighter-Paramedics and a Captain officer position that is either an EMT or Paramedic. In addition there is a full time Chief and Deputy Chief. We are considered a combination fire district and volunteer manpower is required on all responses, or call backs from the career personnel. In the past two years we responded to almost 1,200 calls per year averaging eight people per response, and an average of 11 people per response on structure fires, with an average response time of approximately 6 minutes.

The ISO rating for the entire district has improved to a Class 4 within within five road miles of our Fire Station or Liberty Station 3 on N. Lightburne.

On structure fire calls we respond with two pumpers and two tankers with fol da tanks carrying a total water capacity of 5,100 gallons of water. When required we also have a Quint with a 75’ ladder with a 1500 gallon pump that will respond. We also have mutual aid capability with all neighboring jurisdictions that includes Advanced Life Support ambulances, pumpers and tankers to supplement our water shuttle capabilities. In some areas of the district more than five miles from our station, we have automatic mutual aid on structure fires that allows us to maintain our ISO rating in that area.
